Does anyone know if it is possible to take a bike registed in Lao to Vietnam?
I have a 100cc scooter and want to cross the border from Lao to Vietnam and can't find any information.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Difficult to say if it is possible or not. Some people have crossed the border with a small bike while others have been refused. If you look at how many Vietnamese traders selling pots and pans and other stuff in Laos, buying scrap metal in Laos all on small bikes, you would assume it is possible although I have no doubt that many cross the border at informal crossings so do not pass through the normal/legal channels.
Generally speaking, it seems to be a hit and miss affair - sometimes they let you through and sometimes not - someone from a Vietnamese travel agent said "oiling the wheels" helps and the general fee for this seems to be 20USD on the Vietnam border.
So, try your luck and if you are refused at one crossing, try another one.
Yes, it is difficult to say because it is not legal though. But with a small scooter you can try at Sop Hun / Tay Trang and it may be possible.
By trying a search crossing border to Vietnam with motorbike I found this website MOTOTOURS ASIA: Overland crossing borders motorbike tour Southeast Asia But it say a permit is required
