I’m choosing between a CBR650 and ninja 650 as a long-term mini sports cruiser.
Some weekend use and the odd tour 2-3 per year.
Quality:
The CBR is first gen, and reports say it isn’t as smooth as most inline 4 engines, also buzzes and rattles from the dash area. I’m not entirely convinced on the new gen Thai built Hondas.
The ninja 650 has been around for donkey’s years, and from what I gather rather tested and proven to be rather bullet proof.
Big Wing again is a newish enterprise, compared to Kawa Bangkok, where I guess they have more experience of the bikes, and also dealing with Western customers.
Cost stuff:
I would guess the Ninja twin is lighter on gas than the inline four CBR?
Also cheaper service costs? I presume.
Engine life:
I guess the inline 4 to last longer than the twin cylinder?
Riding:
I would guess the Ninja is lighter, with more power and torque in the low and mid range, with the inline four being more powerful in the top end.
I would guess the inline 4 is smoother than the twin with its two big cylinders.
I give the style to the ninja, but form doesn’t necessarily come before function for me.
I think I have to choose the Ninja 650 between the two.
Did anyone else choose between them? Which one did you choose?
Anyone ride both of them? Which one do you think is the better bike? I would rent each for a day first)
Thanks very much.
