There are several routes from Chiang Mai to Mae Sariang some less boring than others, fortunately off road wise some fun is still to be had it them there hill's if you carefully plan your ride.
Once out of the town on the 108 we find our first stretch of sandy dirt a stark difference to what we see in Chiang Rai.
The perfect trail to get the cobwebs out or hangover in my case.
Sadly it all came to an end too soon as we stopped at the 4 standing Buddhas, quite a spectacle.
N18.64481° E98.81104°
From there it was onto the 1009, sadly it's now fully paved but would be great fun on a sports bike, another nice flowing trail lost.
Fortunately, the concrete has failed to reach this little gem as we turn onto dirt at N18.60156° E98.60624°
Wet or dry feet crossing option.
Dry feet for Des on this occasion.
This is a great trail at this time of year well shaded from the sun and some nice fast sections with a few twiddly bits thrown in.
Nice forest section.
A quick glimpse of sunlight and this terraced rice field.
Back into the wooded area's, some parts hard to navigate with fallen leaves obscuring the trail.
One of the nicer sections.
Not much traffic using it by the looks of thing, good news means it may never be paved.
Pretty steep along here, easy to wash out the front.
The last km are pretty slippy as the sun never drys the trail and green moss is everywhere.
The dirt ends briefly at N18.57043° E98.55302° as you ride through a farming village.
Some sort of camping facility ahead.
Huge fertile vegetable growing area as far as you can see.
Leaving the village and back on the dirt again.
As we progress some parts hard to follow, maybe another more useable trail has been formed by the locals.
My favourite part of the trail it becomes rocky with the occasional stream running through.
Des enjoying it so far (i think).
The dirt comes to an end as we reach the 1284 at N18.56042° E98.52440°
Quick lunch stop as we look over to the Siri Phum waterfall of in the distance, this whole area has now become a major tourist attraction with small camping villages appearing everywhere.
Reaching the Doi Inthanon checkpoint at N18.52598° E98.49920° with no fuss about park fees we turn onto the 1192 towards Mae Chaen.
From there it was a pleasant ride to Mae Sariang for the evening sipping a cold beer at the Ching Ching ready for the morning and wet feet guaranteed.
A good 274 km of great roads and hopefully forever good dirt sections.
