Chiang Mai Northern Loop

G'day
My name is Dave and I'm from Australia and I was wondering if I could hit you guys up for some info. A group of mates and I have been doing a yearly ride through Vietnam for the last 5 years and for our ride this year we have decided to do a ride in Northern Thailand. I was wondering if anyone could give us some ideas on a route.
We will be riding for 6-8 days.
We will be hiring bikes in Chiang Mai.
We were looking at starting and finishing in Chiang Mai.
And we thought if possible and time permitted we would like to cross into Laos for a night or two.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have a look at my report I did a loop in Northern Thailand before I went in to Laos. Not all trails though, more was done in Laos.

What do you want Dave, trails, dirt roads or tar roads?
6-8 days doesn't warrant crossing into Laos as there's plenty in NT, save Laos for a trip of it's own.

Yeah probably a bit of tar and dirt roads, would love to do some trails but the old knees don't handle it to well any more. Ok so you think the 6-8 days is too short to go into Laos well that just gives
us an excuse for another ride.
