This should make me homesick for the Uk seeing this building work going on, but for some reason it doesnt

DSCF1795.jpg

The bricklayers here are certainly a lot prettier than the ones I work with in the UK

This and a kettle are the two most important things on a building site

Its a very pleasant ride to the 1095

DSCF1807.jpg

I do a left onto the 1095 then pretty quickly take a right onto the 4024

DSCF1810.jpg

My first ride along this road and a good find
DSCF1811.jpg

DSCF1812.jpg

I take a left onto a concrete track and this gets steep very quickly
DSCF1813.jpg

DSCF1814.jpg

Its a mixture of a concrete road and these strips for most of the way
DSCF1815.jpg

DSCF1816.jpg

DSCF1817.jpg

A dirt section is encountered along the way

Now back on the 4024 and its a good asphalt surface again
DSCF1848.jpg

DSCF1850.jpg

I take a left to ride to Mong Ngoa

DSCF1860.jpg

DSCF1861.jpg

The road now keeps on alternating between concrete and dirt with a wet section here but its only shortlived then its back to the dry stuff
DSCF1862.jpg

DSCF1863.jpg

DSCF1865.jpg

I reach the Mae Taeng river
DSCF1867.jpg

DSCF1870.jpg

On my first four trips to Chiang Mai I always went on a four day three nights trek and rafted along this river a couple of times, I have no desire to do it again but it was fun at the time

DSCF1882.jpg

The thought of going through that holds no appeal whatsoever
DSCF1883.jpg

Thats cheating, we had to do our rafting down here on bamboo rafts.
A fun day was had exploring some new roads plus there are lots more turnings out here for future trips

Sounds like you were almost tempted to get stuck in there Colin.

This and a kettle are the two most important things on a building site

Did ou ever "show'em a thing or 2" on your many journies round Thailand and looking at the many building sites you capture in your reports ?

I can already hear you say your "not allowed" and getting all excited about visas, work permits etc but I am sure the labour would appreciate you sharing your craft ;)

Nice ride Colin. You are reinforcing the fact that you don't have to go very far to find interesting tracks around Chiang Mai.

Mark has done a lot of trail scouting in the Sop Gai area, there are some fantastic trails north of there that link up to Chiang Dao.

Yes Phil I was looking into exploring the one going north from Sop Gai to Nam Khong sometime
