I have known for a couple of years that somewhere in Thailand there is a silodrome (AKA wall of death) that does some festivals. I have read it has been in Chantaburi (about 5 years ago) and more recently in That Pranom. Thats all I know, that it exists.

I want to find it.. I want to ride it !! I have wanted to do this since I was a kid and maybe facebook and forums can help me find who has this, how to contact them, what festival they will go to and when ?? Will go anywhere in the country, any time, to make it happen.

2014 I want to ride the wall !! Help me find it.

In Chiang Mai it is known as the ride around the moat and can be experienced most days without admission charge. Rider Corner should produce an achievement tee shirt for survivors of this death defying challenge.

my friend saw it when she was younger- at a festival in a village temple
I'd have a go- wonder how long it would take to get it right

^ festival,CM,in Jan sounds like one of the bike parties/shows?

It was in CR for a fair at the old airport around this time last year. Didn't bother going to the fair this year, but it may well have been there.

As Gary says it`s in CM.

Joking or you know this ???

Keep you eyes peeled.. Ask around.. And if its seen please try to get a phone or contact number.

It says CM in the comments on the vid i posted.

OK permission has been granted..

Wont lie.. I am shitting it now.. Woke up thinking about it many times..

Sunday is the day.. Anywhere sell medical cover today ??

My head is full of doubts..

1) the YZ is on dirt tyres.. grip is whats sticking you to the wall.. I notice every bike on every vid is on road tyres..

2) the YZ is very binary.. It likes to braap and accelerate, it doesnt like constant speed or throttle.. It HATES to sit at a mid rev.. And the key would seem steady even speed and throttle, which aint the YZ..

If only I had pushed herman harder on the KTM that would have been ideal.. New tyres and an old bike I dont care about.. I am almost tempted to use the DRZ..

Full of doubts now..

He said a brit did it before.. I am guessing this is him..

Shit they even have a TV crew for that !!

And now I see.. This guy.. That crashes..

Hes already an experienced wall rider in the UK...

Events page

fuck fuck fuck...

Bit of technique and bike setup needed i`d guess?

You`d want stiff suspension so that you get better balance and control because you`re not getting compression and release.Susupension is only for soaking up bumps which there probably aren`t any?
Max grip desirable too.

Which is why I am freaked about knobblies

softish I am guessing..

I will bring a footpump..

Hard for no squirming would be my guess.

Ohh I will be squirming all right..

Not the greatest success I have ever managed..

Good effort Sefton and Alex

Fuck it.. I am calling that a win !!!

I came home a bit mopey that I didnt get right up the wall (well except for crashing right up it).. But thats not a bad run !!!

OK if the above was a win.. This is the fail !!!

You can see I get into 3rd and give it some this time round.. I manage the final transition and its just getting into the wall proper when I lose it.. Once I lose it, then I backed the power off and the whole things goes wrong. I hope to get Johns vids for this as it was pretty well onto the wall by then.

I would have thought that going against the arrow and high fiving your buddies at the top on the way around would be seen as a success,Gen Y style? :)

Alex doing it nice and smooth.. How it should be done.. You can hear my fool head shouting 'go go go'.. I think he still needed a bit more speed to make the vert.

Me just going hard to make it stick.. If I hadnt got a slide and backed off this run would have really been mission accomplished !! Should have pinned it.

Alex (Max, Justin, anyone, ??).. You happy with that and calling it done ??

Hes there another week.. I would put some road tires on and have another go once my bruises have a chance to fade..

The guy there was saying (in thai) to stay low on the vertical, and to sit down
I didnt realise that I was stood up all the time.
So I'd like to try again sat down, and get more stable,
I'm happy with that though
We got the basics now

If you want to go back in a few days I might join you

OK.. I dont want to go alone for obvious hospital based reasons..

Lemmie see what if I can find a good rear tire.

Wow amazing! That looks like fun .... not for me!

But that does not look like a wall ..... it looks more like a old garden fence.

OK well its not looking good to find a cheap 19 inch rear for that kooky size the YZ has.. I really should swap out that rim for an 18. So I think will just hit the MX track instead Friday.

Went along last night and had a much longer talk with the owner.. He said if I can come back he will spend a bit more time teaching technique (wouldnt that have helped the first time !!!) I think he was just a bit surprised we just had a crack at it and wanted to leave the daft farangs to it first time round. He told me last night that yes it would be a lot harder with dirt tires, and also that to be solid on the vert we should be in 4th tho maybe fast 3rd would do, no way theres enough grip in second or low 3rd speeds. What I think I understood is that by being faster you maintain not only better grip, but your then perpendicular / 90 degrees) to the wall.. By being slower your angle is still battling gravity leading to lean being a bit off.

Also he said (and again, why not the other day) that once up on the wall to get the weight back over the rear wheel, which might have helped with my losing the rear and makes sense when you consider your constantly riding a 'dip'.. Transition the weight back and let that 'stick' solidly..

Of course he once again made it look easy. Note full armor and safety gear !!

Before showing me his surgery scars where he broke his back and has his discs fused together !!!

I think I am going to leave it this year, and next new year make sure I have some dual sport or more road grip biased tires on hand and have another go then. Make it an annual event !!

Think its a very old very haggard CRM I think.. Sounded running really rough, missing and spluttering (imagine it cutting out !!).. with worn through almost bald roadish tires on front and a bald dual sport rear.

Looking at the state of the bike, I doubt theres much fine tuning in the 'setup' !!
