For my first bikepacking ride this season I was in Chiang Rai to ride to Tha Ton along the Kok river. I decided on the south side as I will be doing the North side later.
I left Chiang Rai after a bacon and egg sandwich and cup of tea to ride on tarmac for a while. I soon got my first sight of the Kok river.
After a few more kms I was on a rough, graded, dirt road.
Made it to a suspension bridge for motorbikes.
Met a few friendly dogs.
Rode a little further and bought some snacks for lunch. Found a sala for a break.
The road continued to follow the river and sometimes leaving it for a while then rejoining it. The road was not to difficult but rough enough to test my new bike. And test me having not done much riding the past few months in England.
I probably could have made it to Tha Ton that day but decided to camp in a sala to try out some new camping gear. So spent a quiet evening reading and was in my sleeping bag by 8:30.
Next morning was a short ride to Tha Ton so I skipped breakfast and headed for Sunshine Cafe for breakfast. The last 10/12 km being on a rural road before joining the 107. First few kms were in a nice valley with a few short, sharp ups and some nice downs.
Bridge over the river marking the start of real roads.
Finally arriving at Sunshine Cafe for breakfast.
Not the hardest ride I've done but like I said it was to see how the new bike rode and to see how my legs worked after a few months off.
The next ride to Theod Thai should be more challenging.
