For one reason or another Nan appears to be high on my list of places to visit, this time i was kindly invited to a fundraising event by the Al Capone MC for much needed equipment for the regional hospital in Thung Chang.
Myself and Brian, a local Chiang Rai rider made the trip taking in some of the better roads on the way.
First stop at the Magic Mountain coffee shop for a break and take in the views.
Grandma taking care of the kids in her Yao traditional dress.
The 1148 was traffic free and dry, also some roadworks are underway now.
Some 1148 shots.
Reaching the end of the 1148 and a quick gas stop it was on to the 1081 and the spectacular 1256, fingers crossed the weather would be kind this time.
Very nice waterside eating area.
The 1256 is maybe one of the most overlooked roads in Northern Thailand and if the weather is right a real joy to ride.
However this joy was short lived and dark clouds looked to spoil the fun.
One of the many landslides that had blocked the road during the heavy rains.
About 10 km from Bo Klua the weather turned as it always does for me on this road.
As the rain grew heavier we darted for cover in town at a local coffee shop.
The 1081 was to be another wet ride to Nan although we saw many groups of riders making the most of it.
Well it gave me an opportunity to see how good my new Michelin Pilot Road 4 tyres worked out in the mixture of wet and dry conditions, i was impressed
Finally made it to Nan and checked into the GH, with the hardest beds i have ever slept on, but good value at 500 baht a night.
On the positive, it was a short walk to the Pump Station and some nice cold beer.
An early start in the morning to meet up with the Al Capone guys
To be continued.
