Alpinestar Tech 10 boots damage

Looks like Midnight Mapper won't be buying any more Alpinestar Tech 10 boots. The plastic soles are just glued to the boot uppers, the glue parts and you're screwed. Admittedly, Don probably gives everything the hardest probable test than anyone will give, but these are still $600 boots.

Was talking with someone last night that also has Alpinestar Tech 10 boots, that is an Enduro rider and he also hates them. As they have a plastic molded sole, if you are riding a kick start bike, the boot slips off the kick start.

It seems the Alpinestar Tech 8 boots are a much better choice, the "bootie" arrangement the Tech 8 boots have is a great system as you can take the booties out and dry them overnight.

One of the guys we ride with just bought a new pair of Sidi Crossfire boots, one of the horizontal plastic supports got a rip on its first ride

fully agree phil, tech 8 or a cheapo pair of thor's for 5000baht have lasted me miles longer than teck 10 or crossfires.

Is that in a quest to make the higher end ones lighter you reckon ??

Got gifted a pair of those O'Neal element boots out of helmet2home and while I would like a bit more ankle flexibility they seem to be ok so far.

More stuck on finding a road boot that doesnt look like a power rangers issue... Need a hop up to Tachilek to have a check.

I'd also suggest Tech 3's. These can be bought in Chiang Mai (Helmet2Home) for about 6,000-8,000 baht (can't remember exactly how much) and have stitched soles. Mine are great. Way more quality and protection than the low end O Neil and Fox offerings I've seen and only a little more money.

My Tech 8's are coming up for 4 years old, have done over 15,000klm's, have been underwater, filled with mud, full of beach sand, cleaned with the pressure washer, bashed to shit on rocks, overseas twice plus other assorted use.
Wouldn't buy a different type. These may outlast me.

I use Sidi Adventures, have only done a few thousand KMs in them up till now but I am very pleased with them so far. Not a full on MX boot but great for most other riding. At 12,000THB they don't come cheap though...

Interesting about your Tech 10's. My Tech 7's did exactly the same thing! The entire bloody sole came off! I had a guy "glue" it back on. I found a nice used pair of Sidi Crossfires. Night and Day better then Alpinestars. I am now a true Sidi zealot. Fantastic. (I paid $100 USD for my 1 year old set off Craig's list ... very lucky)

I wish I had some pics of my old Tech 7's. I don't. sold them off after repair for $30 usd.

There was a guy riding with us last week that had the Molded Tech 7's soles, I was wondering if the "glued-on" arrangement would have the same problem at the Tech 10's.

Just another plug for them now.
Cruising along at about 40kph on a trail, I had a stick go through them onto my ankle. It jammed my foot against the bike & doing so, twisted my whole lower leg around backwards past 90 degrees.
I was sure I had broken something as I nearly passed out from the pain. I have a big graze on my ankle bone & if it wasn't for the "Bootie" inside, I think the stick would have opened me up as well.
The only thing wrong with them now is they're even less waterproof than before :p
Again, these would have to be some of the best boots I've ever owned.

Lucky luck with the ankle there Pounce.
I will do a strait trade ,for my Tech 10s I will pay the shipping!
You have lived one of my nightmares, plowing into a corner where a local farmer has hacked of a bamboo twig at a sharp angle, like a pungee stick. One of these bamboo twigs would skewer you like a shish kabob.
I have had one pierce my panyer bag just like this.
