About to buy a new compact car for the wife ... With service being so important here, the two that seem to make the most sense are the Honda Brio and the Ford Fiesta (both seem to be around 500,000 Bht). The Mazda 2 looks interesting but the other two seem a better choice.

Anyone have ideas or disagree? Not really up on car gadgets, which are important to have installed at the factory?

We have the Fiesta Eco Boost 1000cc 3 cylinder, great car drives like a 2 litre 15k service intervals and awesome on fuel or so the wife tells me.

We bought the brio it's been a fantastic car
I travel from roi et to Bangkok with the family regularly and it cruises at 120 km fully loaded
It is surprisingly large inside for a little car
Honda are brilliant my wife takes it in all the time for the tiniest scratch I despaire sometimes but the Honda team seem more than happy to fix anything
I got the automatic and electric windows etc the whole package was 530000b
We are going to change soon as we have paid the car off over 3 years. We have done 65000 kms and only changed the tyres and done the regular services which have been very cheep in my opinion
I drive an s class Merc in the UK and it's no hardship getting in the brio my wife loves it
The only gripe I have is the roads have deteriorated over the last 3 years where I live and the wheels are very small so I will be getting a 4 W D in the new year
I really can't fault the car whether it's as good as the ford I don't know but the dealership and service has been excellent
I would get some add ons as the basic brio at 420000b is very basic
I hope this helps

We had a Honda Jazz 1500 automatic in Thailand for years, a very good car and decent service. We decided to upgrade to a Honda HRV last year.
In the Netherlands we owned a Suzuki Swift which my wife loved, a fine car too.

If the Suzuki service in Thailand is of the same level as Honda I think the Swift is a good option as it is the same size as the Jazz.

One that you could also consider is the MG 3 which is now heavily promoted in Thailand. I am not sure how good it is, being a Chinese car....

Of the 2 suggestions the fiesta seems much more solid a car.. The brio very light and small thin wheels.. OK for a city shopper but I would hate to drive one a distance. Hate even more to be in a real wreck.. The Ford feels solid.

I thought the fiesta was a good deal more cost than a brio tho (like 399 for a base brio eco version) and the fiesta startring mid 5xx and can go up fast.. Get leather and airbags with an auto and its into the 7xx ?? At least thats what I remember the missus's costing (1.5 auto s ??). To me the brio is more in line with the nissan march micro car than the fiesta as a compact.

I too like the swift but the old lady didnt.. Did they not come out with an eco car version of that which was lower taxes too ?? Think thats 4xx entry cost for a solid feeling compact. That launched just after we commited to the ford. Not a lot in it but maybe 100k of savings.

Fords depreciate like hell here.. that 7xx car is 280 in a couple of years.. and the dealership while not being a problem for us, I have heard not always so smooth. Waiting for parts etc.

Then theres always the juke, HRV, and ford ecosport.. More safe and solid again ??

Out Nov 10.. Rave reviews internationally..

Would be worth putting on the short list ??

But you could a honda Brio ?!?!?

Yep, I think Honda makes better cars. Personal choice there will be others that disagree. Looks like she's got her heart set on a Nissan Juke with its 800,000 Bht price tag. After spending time looking at all the current compact cars, i think the new shape Toyota Yaris is the best of the bunch for looks ans value.

Completely agree...I've owned one for 10 months now...trouble-free..very responsive...had a long nail in one tyre.. cost me 25000rupiah, less than $2... Hehe!!!

Aren't there any reviews/comparos on the 'net which cover all of these cars?

I'd be interested, too.

Guess I'd go with the Honda, too. Toyota is better but too expensive, Ford is cheap but loses resale value, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan have too mall a merket share but mat be decent cars.

I'd like to know where the Suzuki fits in there but don't have the time to do the research. :(

My Brothers wife in UK has a Suzuki Swift its 7 years old has done 76k miles and is totally reliable ,, she is about to trade it in for another one ,, My UK daughter also has one ...and Suzuki topped the recent JD power survey in UK for relaiblity over all the other Japs ...

That's good to hear!

For the European market the Swift is built in Hungary. I

n Thailand, the Swift is built locally and is part of the Thai government's eco-car program.
