A ride out to one of the best resorts in north Thailand

With us off riding in India for a month soon, we wanted to take our 5 year old daughter somewhere special for a a few days. We'd heard that the Rawee Wawee Resort in Mae Taeng was pretty special, so it seemed a good opportunity to be extravagant and give it a try.


The 990 s all saddled up like a donkey with 3 people's gear

This was the first time we'd taken my daughter on a road trip on the big bikes, so a bit worrying. We wanted her to sit behind in the pillion seat, she was adamant that she wanted to sit in front, which might be better anyway in case she fell asleep (which she did).

It's 53km from Chiang Mai to The Rawee Wawee Resort in Mae Taeng, so less than an hour.


North up R 107, passed the MHS loop/ Pai/ R 1095 turn, 6 km's more then a left turn onto R 3162 that follows the Mae Taeng River northwestwards

We saw this tree on R 3162 and both slammed on our brakes, I dont think I've seen one of these before with two distinct bright colors, might even have been two trees intertwined

A bit further along R 3162 and we get to the Rawee Wawee Resort & I must admit it's as impressive as everyone was making out

Whoa - what a view


There are 3 huge elongated pools with private bungalow/ chalets surrounding them all

Its a really nice set up with a lot of thought going into privacy

Even in the low season the resort is full ! We tried to get a chalet on the pool (the cheapest option) & they were fully booked. They were able to give us an executive residence that has a rack rate of 6,400 Bht a night, through some friends we were able to get a 25% discount.

The central pool area is exquisitely designed

With the restaurant on one side of it

A very discreet spar, beautifully designed, this is a really classy place

Don't miss the coffee shop on the southern side of the resort right on the banks of the Mae Taeng river

The restaurant for an evening meal is absolutely perfect, you are miles from anything, all you can hear is the Mae Taeng River, no traffic noise at all

Decent food, I think with a few beers dinner was 1,600 Bht for 3 people.

I will be back to Rawee for sure ...(& so will she, she loved it)

Awesome pix. I was just up that way a week ago, saw the dam, then circled around to the 118 and back down into town.
