Hi All,

A friend and I are planning a 4 night, 5 day camping trip around the north of Thailand later this month and I was wondering if someone would be able to offer some advice on what's realistic with regards to distances for each day based on road quality etc.

We want to see / do as much as possible each day with maybe approximately 5 - 6hrs riding, mixing in attractions, relaxing and meals etc.

I'll be on a CB500x, and my friend will probably be on a 250 of some sort.

Our initial thoughts on routes are as follows:

Day 1 - Chiang Mai to Namtok Mae Surin (Via Doi Inthanon)
Day 2 - Mae Surin National Park to Doi Pha Hom Pok (Via Mae Hong Son)
Day 3 - Doi Pha Hom Pok to Doi Phu Kha (via Chiang Rai)
Day 4 - Doi Phu Kha - Lam Nam Nan
Day 5 - Lam Nam Nan - Chiang Mai

We haven't really looked at the best routes to take, or best camping grounds yet (any suggestions would be appreciated!). But the general route (by throwing destination names into google maps) has come up with this.

I've seen some nice GPS co-ordinates for attractions in other threads, so after a bit more research i'll probably add some in along the way.

it'd be great to hear any thoughts / ideas / comments.

thanks.

Had a quick look and most of the days are doable but personally I am not sure if I would want to spend long days on the road on such a trip. Day 4 to Lam Nam Nan - have you thought about going to the Khun Satan National Park which is just north of the Nan River/Sirikit Dam/Reservoir. Beautiful roads and views and it would shorten your ride for that day as well as the next day quite a bit (assuming that the place you plan to stay in the Lam Nam Nan NP is at the Park Office.

Suggestions on attractions to see - it would help if you can indicate what types of attractions you are interested in: Temples, Waterfalls, Caves, etc.

Thanks for the advice Lone Rider.

After reviewing the routes i think we may make some of the days a bit shorter. Khun Satan National Park sounds like a good idea!

Regarding the attractions I guess we'd be looking for a mix of natural attractions rather than temples etc.
