Today's fantastic ride exploring some small roads north of R 118







Unfortunately - Kevin from Miguels wasn't able to join us, he said its the 3rd time he's missed the ride to these roads, so it was the four of us

Colin sharing his vast knowledge of the area

The UN-numbered roads north of R118 were brand new cement to start then turning into hard packed dirt trails for the most part

They were sealing the concrete with tar while we were riding on it, brand new

This a fantastic day ride out of Chiang Mai --very easy dirt trails

This local lady actually spoke English! We were shocked

This was the worst part of the unmade road - very manageable by all

I wonder how Colin got his nick-name? (he'd drank 3 litres of water in 2 hours)

Colin had been gagging to try the burgers at the new World Class Hamburgers in Mae Ka Chan

He will report on the quality for sure

We met up at Miguels this morning but sadly Kevin had other commitments and couldnt ride with us, so off we set and took the 118 to N19.04.318 E099.23.315 where we took a left to explore a new offroad track for all of us

A new concrete surface to start off with for a while and then we get to the unmade section

Time for a break and a chinwag

Lots of water today but all the crossings had bridges

Now which way do we go

The surface gets damper and a bit trickier

Back to a dry surface and the scenery is great, I found it a bit chilly first thing but it has now turned into a baking hot day

A good fun ride here today

We take another well deserved break

This was one bridge crossing that we didnt have to take

This snake has just been caught and no doubt is going in the cooking pot tonight

They want to get home and enjoy their tasty dinner

The dirt section finishes at N19.11.650 E099.29.388 and its an asphalt surface now and paved all the way to the 118

A tree dwelling rat snake slithers across the road in front of me but I cant catch it and only manage this one shot of it as it climbs upwards

I had better hurry back as everyone is hungry

We eat here, its at a PTT station at N19.11.576 E099.30.862

Lots of westerners eating here

A double pork burger, sadly they were out of cheese so no cheese burgers, 69 Baht and not bad, cheers for the burger Phil

We all get stuck in.
From here we ride back along the 118 before taking a left onto the 3005 which in turn becomes the 1317 and on home

Back in Chiang Mai I call in to see if my rack and pannier frames are finished being chromed, they are and are put back on the bike

1600 Baht to have these three pieces chromed at N18.46.996 E099.00.337, two doors along from where my seat was done
