The old car was abandoned and full of rubbish
IMG_0799.JPG
The whole place seemed abandoned too, no sign of recent activity here
IMG_0800.JPG
I am intrigued as to what these are, they are not bottles like I first thought and are soft to touch
IMG_0802.JPG

IMG_0803.JPG
There are a lot of them in there
IMG_0804.JPG
The sign at the entrance
IMG_0805.JPG
For a while it clouds over a bit
IMG_0806.JPG
Then gets sunnier again

Special of the day at Crossroads was lasagna with fries, salad and garlic bread.
Delicious and very filling 180 Baht

Those are mushroom "bottles". The mushrooms, usually oyster ones. grow out of the ends of the "bottles". Hence the dark room. We used to grown them here in Kan but now the shop over the road grows them on an industrial scale. We had them for dinner. We keep on having them for dinner!

The other metal containers seem to be some kind of "high tech" charcoal manufacture. Probably beats the stench of the home made stuff.

Great photos as usual.

Roger

Thanks Roger, those mushrooms are delicious thats for sure

Hi Colin,
That old car is, I believe, a 1968c Peugeot 504 which used to be quite a car.
They had a very rugged suspension and, therefore, were successful in the 'outback' roads in Oz.
(Probably why it was used in that area of Thailand).
The 'racing' number is intriguing. Maybe it was used in a rally.
Or maybe the driver got lost during the London to Sydney Marathon!!
Comfortable, quite, frugal and a great long distance tourer.
Quite a find you have there.

Roger,
I get thrown by the stylised Thai script.
I think that sign basically refers to a place where 'students' can learn the art of charcoal making.
Yes?

You get thrown off by stylised Thai script! I find it next to impossible to decipher sometimes. I certainly can't ready it quickly.

It's a place for farmers to learn how to make charcoal. What is not clear is whether you end up buying these machines or not. But it looks like another failed enterprise. I'm rather surprised that these gadgets are still there and have not been spirited away by now.

I always liked the Peugeot 504. There used to be lots of them in Thailand. About the only French car they had. Rarely see them now.

Ironically, there's a 504 for sale very near me.
But this is a bike site; good to have some conversation though.
