Friday morning on the Ulysses ride

The scenery is a lot nicer than when I last rode here in march

Twenty six years ago I went on a trek that included rafting here but we didnt have the luxury of those inflatable rafts, ours were bamboo ones

Saturday morning was getting spares for the bike. The rear tyre was finished, I decided to try this style out and hopefully it will be a better road tyre. If it is noticeably better I will change the front one too, not bad for 350 Baht
IMG_6354.JPG
Interestingly the genuine Honda parts from Sangchai Honda are cheaper that the aftermarket ones from Chang Moi Road. 330 Baht for the chain and sprocket kit and 120 Baht for the rear brake shoes
IMG_6355.JPG
That explains the clunking when I put it into first gear. 16000 km out of this one
IMG_6355a.JPG
The rear looked okay until the new one was placed next to it then I could see it was well worn. 800 Baht for the parts and 300 Baht to have the work done was fine by me. £29 in UK money in total. By contrast Honda dealers in the UK charge £90 or 3500 Baht just for the chain and sprocket kit

Now on todays ride which was also to the Mae Taeng river but at a different place
IMG_6386.JPG
An unmapped short unpaved track was explored but soon joined the paved road

Now off to find a small reservoir I can see on the map

IMG_6395.JPG
A disappointingly low water level
IMG_6396.JPG
Lots of water flowing down the Mae Taeng river but it must all be diverted at the moment as none flows here

The reservoir at the end of this track is often overflowing

But no overflow today

A pleasant days ride to get me back into it

Chicken and cashews at an unknown restaurant on the middle ring road south of town

Good to see you back again in Chiang Mai, Colin. At least you've escaped this miserable wet and cold weather in the UK. Shame I won't be enjoying the sunshine in Thailand again. I look forward to seeing more of your excellent photos in the coming months.
Roger

Hi Colin, how much KM did the chain and sprockets last?
I am a bit surprised to see the condition of the sprockets, considering the chain being in an oil bath case??!

Thanks Mark.

Its good to be back Roger, I hear it only stopped raining today in the south of the UK after a wet week

Marcel they covered 16000 km but dont forget there was an awful lot of offroad riding with river crossings which put water and shit inside the chaincase. The chain doesnt run in an oil bath but the chaincase helps chain life a lot for ordinary road riding.

Aaah, I always thought these enclosed Honda chain cases are oil bath, similar to various classic bikes?!
With 16K km that wear is understandable.....
